This Christmas, the fences of Jesse Gray Primary School have been transformed into a vibrant collective art and literature exhibition.
Titled ‘A Winter’s Tale,’ the project is designed to share goodwill, express gratitude, and spread festive joy from each and every pupil.

Every student, from Foundation Stage to Year 6, participated in this school-wide initiative. Their challenge was to craft a piece of microfiction—a complete, story told in fewer than 67 words. These tiny tales explore powerful themes of hope, kindness, generosity, and belonging, serving as a “Winter Message” to every passer-by.

The project has already captured the hearts of families and neighbors alike. One Year 4 parent shared, “We cannot wait to take a winter walk over the holidays with our relatives to see all the lovely work.” The sense of pride among the students is equally evident: “My son was so excited to share his work; he’s very proud to show it off,” noted a Year 1 parent.

The initiative has even touched those beyond the school gates. A local resident of Selby Road commented: “Such a lovely initiative! Thank you to all the staff; it’s a wonderful Christmas gesture.”
The display, physically hung along the school fences on Musters Road, was installed by the children as a community act on the final day of term. It will remain in place until 28th December for all to enjoy.

Reflecting on the project’s success, English Lead, Mrs Wood said:
“This project is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our wonderful writing and creativity while sharing goodwill at Christmas time. It’s been inspiring to see the children focus their ideas into such tiny, powerful stories. We hope the community enjoys reading these messages of joy as much as the children enjoyed writing them.”
