The clocks will go forward by one hour next weekend, marking the start of British Summer Time and bringing lighter evenings across the UK.
At 1am on Sunday, 29 March, clocks will move forward to 2am, meaning people will lose an hour of sleep but gain an extra hour of daylight in the evenings.
The change is designed to make better use of natural daylight during the spring and summer months, with sunrise and sunset occurring later in the day. It is expected to bring brighter evenings for commuters, outdoor activities and local events as the season shifts.
Most smartphones, computers and other digital devices will update automatically, but residents are reminded to check manual clocks such as ovens, microwaves and car dashboards.
The change also serves as a prompt for households to check smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure they are working properly.
British Summer Time will remain in place until the clocks go back again in autumn.
