Grade II listed wedding venue near Arnold sells for £2.5m

A Grade II* listed wedding venue near Arnold has been sold for £2.64 million after being placed on the market earlier this year.

The Lakeside, a former Victorian water pumping station just outside Arnold in Nottinghamshire, has been acquired by a subsidiary of Ensarb Ltd, a West Midlands-based group of independently owned wedding venues.

The venue was marketed with a guide price of £2.5 million in March after joint fixed charge receivers Andrew Foster and Chris Walker instructed commercial property agents Watling Real Estate and Christie & Co. to handle the sale.

The building dates back to 1873 and was constructed in the Gothic revival style by Thomas Hawksley, engineer to the Nottingham Waterworks Company. It has since been converted for use as a wedding and events venue.

The main venue includes an 80-cover restaurant, a further 40 mezzanine spaces, a bar and lounge for 80 people, and a function room for 80. Its main wedding and function suite can seat more than 150 guests, with an outdoor terrace area providing space for 100 covers.

The Thomas Hawksley Tower and main wedding venue overlook an ornamental lake, parkland and landscaped gardens. A cottage known as West Lodge also provides on-site accommodation.

Toby O’Sullivan, a director in Watling Real Estate’s Birmingham office, said: “This exceptional Grade II* listed wedding venue is a well-known regional landmark and has remained vacant and closed for some time despite having been extensively converted and restored by its previous owner.

“We are pleased to have sold it to Ensarb who have an excellent track record of successfully operating venues such as The Lakeside.”

Stephen Hale and Eoghan Quinn, of law firm TLT, advised the joint fixed charge receivers, while James Lunt, of Knights, acted for Ensarb.
