A burglar who got into an elderly, vulnerable woman’s flat and stole money from her purse has been jailed.
Lee Thomas broke into the 84-year-old victim’s property after gaining access to a nursing home on Seagrave Road, Strelley, on the afternoon of 6 April 2025.
The offender knocked on the woman’s room and attempted to sell dusters and cloths to her, which she refused.
He then proceeded to enter the room anyway and when the victim opened her pursed, he seized the chance to steal £200 of cash from her.
The 31-year-old left behind a light switch and pack of cloths, however the victim never agreed to buy anything.
Thomas, of Sherrington Close, Clifton, was identified as a suspect after detectives trawled through CCTV footage and carried out other local inquiries.
He pleaded guilty to burglary and was jailed for 32 months when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (13 February).
The burglar also pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to court following a breached court order.
PC Laura Sims, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Any burglary on a home is an appalling and invasive crime.
“However, to target a vulnerable person’s complex is disgraceful behaviour.
“We investigate any home break-in with a victim-focused approach and supported this lady while carrying out our inquiries to track down the perpetrator.
“I’m pleased a judge has now put Thomas behind bars where he can hopefully reflect on his offending.”
