Burglars steal £10,000 worth of Pokemon cards

Suspected burglars were tracked across the country after breaking into a business premise and stealing more than £10,000 of Pokémon cards.

The incident happened on Saturday 27 December just after 1am at a storage warehouse in Aurillac Way in Retford.

Officers were alerted after the building’s alarm system was activated and found that thieves had targeted the premises.

Thieves cut through fencing and then removed bricks from a wall to gain access to the collectable cards.

The value of the cards is estimated to be more than £10,000.

CCTV footage identified the van involved in the crime travelling on cloned number plates.

The van was then tracked travelling to South Yorkshire and then on to Manchester where it was intercepted in a storage yard.

Two men were caught red-handed removing the boxes from the van containing the stolen Pokémon cards.

Inside the van was a number of tools including a sledgehammer.

Two men, aged 24 and 26, from Leeds, were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The investigation is continuing to locate any further offenders.

Detective Sergeant Andrea Brown, who is investigating the incident, said:

“In a few hours of the burglary occurring, we have not only arrested two suspects but secured the stolen goods.

“This was excellent work by officers from Nottinghamshire and Greater Manchester Police.

“Both forces came together to find those responsible for a high-value commercial burglary.

“Burglary has a detrimental impact on businesses and residents. It is not only the financial loss but the emotional distress this crime causes.

“That’s why we will do everything we can to track down those responsible as this result clearly shows.”
