Residents are being invited to help shape the next phase of the Carlton Active project, as designs for the new building are shared and a borough-wide engagement programme launches.
Gedling Borough Council is taking an exciting step forward in transforming local leisure provision, with the Carlton Active project now entering a key stage of development.
The proposals aim to deliver modern, accessible and sustainable facilities that support healthier, more active communities. across the borough. Plans include building a new Carlton Active Centre, bringing together leisure facilities, health and wellbeing services and flexible community spaces in one location.
The new building’s designs are now being shared, giving residents the opportunity to see what the new centre could look like as well as the facilities it will include.
The exterior building design reflects local heritage and the building is designed to be fully accessible, with step-free access throughout and low-stimulation spaces. Carlton Active has been designed with low energy principles applied from the start and aims to support local communities and be more than just a place to exercise.
A three-week engagement period will run from 1 to 21 June, providing the opportunity to review the building designs and to share their views on the designs.
Residents can get involved through a survey and public drop-in sessions at Carlton Forum Leisure Centre, including an opportunity to meet the project team and learn more about the scheme.
Drop in sessions
• Tuesday 9 June (10.30am – 4pm)
• Wednesday 10 June (4 – 8pm)
Meet the Design Team
• Monday 15 June (10am – 8pm)
Councillor Henry Wheeler, Portfolio Holder for Lifestyles, Health and Wellbeing said “This is an exciting stage of the Carlton Active programme and a chance for people to find out more about the new building. I would encourage local residents to take part and share their views, to help shape the future of leisure in the borough.”
The survey is available until 21 June and can be completed online or via paper copies at Gedling Leisure Centres.
Feedback gathered during this engagement period will help to refine the proposals for Carlton Active.
