Charity initiative seeks 40 Nottinghamshire men to unite in song for Prostate Cancer UK

Popular pop-up singing project Men United in Song is coming to Nottinghamshire in 2024 and its organisers are urging local men to sign up for something extraordinary in support of Prostate Cancer UK.

Launching in March, the project will give 40-plus Nottinghamshire men with little or no singing experience the opportunity to embark on a unique musical journey. Working over nine weeks towards a spectacular live performance at Southwell Minster in May 2024, participants will learn to sing, meet new people, perform live on stage and raise money for a much-loved and essential charity, Prostate Cancer UK.

No previous singing experience is necessary, just a willingness to do something different, get stuck in and give it a go… everyone’s in the same boat, and it’s all about the journey.

The project, which has run successfully in other parts of the UK for several years, is coming to Nottinghamshire for the first time in 2024. It kicks off with two sign-up sessions in the evenings of 26 February and 4 March at South Nottinghamshire Academy, Radcliffe on Trent, giving those wishing to participate the chance to meet the team and some of the other men taking part.

After that, Men United in Song 2024 rehearsals will take place at South Nottinghamshire  Academy at 7pm every Monday, starting 11 March.

The local project will culminate in a Men United in Song 2024 concert at Southwell Minster on 10 May 2024, in front of an audience of hundreds, from which all proceeds will go to Prostate Cancer UK.

And finally, the singers will unite with men from four other parts of England for a celebration concert at Nottingham’s Albert Hall on 25 May.

Malcolm Dillon, from the project, said: “We hope as many Nottinghamshire men as possible will sign up to take part, learn a new skill and support an extremely worthy cause. Whether you’ve never sung before or just need a nudge to revisit an old hobby, this is your chance to be part of something monumental.

“With a series of workshops to help you learn the skills, techniques and songs involved, culminating in a grand charity concert at Southwell Minster, you’re not just joining a volunteer choir; you’re raising vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK and creating a vibrant, supportive community. Don’t just watch – be a part of this inspiring journey.”
