Inspector Charlotte Allardice, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was excellent police work from officers who followed their intuition and took swift action to recover drugs and a weapon.

“Drugs and knife crime are incredibly damaging to local communities and we take such incidents very seriously.

“We will be thoroughly investigating last night’s report with the intention of taking appropriate action against those responsible.

“Working with local residents is a key part of our strategy in tackling drug and knife crime and it is really important that anyone who sees anything suspicious in their area reports it to Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or in an emergency, dial 999.”
