Nottinghamshire County Council says legal action has begun to remove an unauthorised traveller encampment from land in Newton.
The council has also confirmed that bollards intended to prevent vehicles from accessing the site have been delivered, with installation expected to be completed within the next month.
The response follows criticism from county councillor Neil Clarke, who said residents were “fed up and want answers” after caravans and other vehicles returned to Newton Lane on Sunday 20 September.
Councillor Clarke said he had been pressing the authority to introduce permanent measures for several months following repeated unauthorised encampments at the location.
He said the Reform UK-led administration had declined his request for a “trench and bund” but had agreed to install bollards.
Councillor Clarke also called for legal papers to be served correctly, claiming an error during an earlier incident had delayed proceedings.
Responding to the concerns, Nottinghamshire County Council said staff from its highways partner, Via East Midlands, visited the site on Monday morning.
The authority said it was beginning the legal process required to obtain a court order to remove the encampment.
It added that work to design a permanent solution had been completed and that the required bollards were now available.

Councillor Bert Bingham, Nottinghamshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment, said: “We are aware of the travellers setting up camp at this location. Staff from our highways partner, Via East Midlands, attended the site on Monday morning and we are starting the legal process to get the necessary court order to remove them.
“Work to design a permanent solution to protect the area from illegal camping has been underway in recent months and is now complete. We have also taken delivery of bollards, as part of a permanent solution, and work to prevent access to the site is due to be completed in the coming month.”
