Public Health Director Alison Challenger updated the Nottingham City Council Health and Wellbeing Board meeting today.
Alison Challenger, Public Health Director for Nottingham City said:
‘Our infection rate is declining much slower than the England rate, that’s a pattern that we’re seeing across the Midlands, rates are tending to plateau now which is concerning. A lot of our cases are in the 23-59 year-olds.
‘We do know that pressure on health and care services is intense across the city and county, the local system is under incredible pressure and will be for some time.’
‘There are also a lot of outbreaks in Nottingham care homes and in hotels.’
An outbreak is defined as two or more cases, ‘a fair number of care homes have two or more cases’ we have an additional number of care homes who have more cases and require an incident management team to support them’ said Ms Challenger.
‘Where there are care home outbreaks we are taking testing into them to get staff and residents tested.’
Alison said that the vaccine programme for priority groups of care home workers and residents was ‘moving at pace’ and should meet Government targets.
Alison added that Nottingham’s infection rate was ‘plateauing’ and not declining as fast as the rest of England.
