Crack cocaine seized after search of Nottinghamshire neighbourhood

A suspected drug dealer has been charged after quantities of crack cocaine were seized by police.

Neighbourhood officers made the discovery after attending reports of a disturbance in Yorke Drive, Newark.

Police noticed suspicious activity as they attended the unrelated incident at 9.25am on Friday (19 September).

After investigating further, a mixture of neighbourhood and response officers detained a suspect before conducting a search of the area.

This ultimately resulted in them uncovering and seizing large quantities of Class A drugs – believed to be crack cocaine – from nearby.

The individual they’d stopped was also searched and found to have three phones and large amounts of cash in his possession.

Suspect Levi Beckford, 23, was subsequently arrested, before later being charged with being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

Beckford, of Ellis Court, St Ann’s, was remanded into custody, following an appearance at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (20 September).

He is next due to appear before Nottingham Crown Court on 17 October.

PC Richard Bombroffe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Class A drugs like crack cocaine destroy the lives of vulnerable people, so we’re always pleased to take these substances away from our streets.

“Tackling drugs supply was actually added as a new neighbourhood policing priority for the Newark area last Friday, so this latest result was quite timely.

“We will not tolerate the supply of drugs in our communities and will always look to put anyone suspected of doing this before the courts, as happened in this incident.”
