The Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service crew from East Leake attended a fire at a local den due to the fire being left unattended and causing alarm to members of the public.
A spokesperson for the station said:
‘Whilst the adventurous nature of building dens is fun, socialising with your friends around a little fire whilst observing safe fire practice.
‘This being the 5th call out within a week is not fair on the community and wildlife.
‘We are sorry for those who have spent time to build this incredible den, however the fire being left unattended had spread to the furniture within as well as nearby trees, we therefore had no option but to make the area safe.
‘This has been reported to the police due to the level of damage to the land and the drug paraphernalia found in the den.
‘Our Crew provides on-call availability 24/7 every day of the year. Whilst in attendance clearing up the aftermath of this den, we cannot respond to urgent calls within our village.
‘Take home message: build a den, be adventurous, socialise with friends but if you are making a little fire, have reasonable means to extinguish it if necessary and do not leave it unattended.’
