Meadow Park in East Leake, spanning almost eighteen hectares, is a cherished leisure facility for local residents, featuring open spaces, woodlands, and the picturesque Kingston Brook flowing through its heart.
Owned by Rushcliffe Borough Council, the day-to-day management has been overseen by East Leake Parish Council since 2009.
The Friends of Meadow Park recently applied to British Gypsum’s Community Projects for a donation of £2,000 to assist in the upkeep of the park, contributing to the improvement of vital paths that had suffered significant damage in the aftermath of the 2019 floods.
Andy Denker, who applied for the donation on behalf of the Friends of Meadow Park, expressed gratitude for British Gypsum’s continued support.
He said: “Over recent years, British Gypsum has given us small donations which have assisted us in the purchase of tools and wildflower seeds/plants to improve the park”
“With the state of the paths deteriorating, particularly over the COVID period, the donation has been instrumental in funding the much-needed repairs.”
The two paths, significantly damaged after the 2019 flood, were a cause for concern as they became running streams, removing the top surface of the pathways.
The repair project, costing around £10,000, involved scraping the existing surface, increasing the width to 1.2 metres, and adding Type 2 limestone gravel to enhance the height. The paths were then topped with limestone dressing, creating a durable surface.
Andy highlighted the importance of these repairs, stating, “The repair has again made these two paths more accessible to all users, particularly wheelchairs and buggies. Hopefully, these initial repairs will start the process to bring back full accessibility to all the community again.”
Keith Givens, East Leake Plant Site Manager, expressed his support of British Gypsum’s contribution to the community. “As part of our commitment to fostering inclusion and
supporting local initiatives, we are delighted to have played a role in enhancing the accessibility of Meadow Park,” he said.
British Gypsum’s commitment to community projects aligns with their broader goal of creating a positive impact for people and the planet. The company actively supports initiatives related to education, poverty alleviation, inclusion, biodiversity, and community wellbeing.
