East Midlands Airport arrivals area improved

Passengers arriving at East Midlands Airport are being welcomed by a refreshed immigration and arrivals area following a series of improvements aimed at enhancing the customer experience.

The airport’s main immigration hall, where passengers pass through passport control, has undergone a redesign to improve both appearance and navigation. Changes include new wood panelling in keeping with upgrades elsewhere in the terminal, alongside images of local landmarks and updated welcome signage.

Wayfinding has also been improved, with colour-coded archways, new queue barriers and clearer signs installed to help passengers identify the correct route for passport checks more easily.

Beyond border control, the baggage reclaim hall has been redecorated and fitted with new signage. The area also benefits from new toilet facilities and a Changing Places facility introduced last year, designed to provide accessible amenities for passengers with complex needs.

Additional improvements for arriving passengers include the introduction of a new Lost Property Hub in the arrivals hall. The Short Stay 1 car park has also been resurfaced and fitted with refreshed signage to make navigation clearer for customers collecting travellers.

In the arrivals hall, WHSmith is currently undergoing a refit. Airport management has confirmed that toilet facilities in this area will also be upgraded in the coming months as part of a wider refurbishment of all toilets throughout the terminal. Facilities in the check-in hall are close to completion.

Alongside the arrivals improvements, further redevelopment is taking place in the departure lounge ahead of the summer season. This includes the introduction of new retail outlets, new and refurbished food and drink venues, a Quiet Room and sensory pod, and a new Little Flyers play area for younger passengers.

Mike Grimes, Customer Service and Planning Director at East Midlands Airport, said the changes had been introduced in response to passenger feedback. He said the enhancements provide a warmer welcome for those arriving in the East Midlands, while significant upgrades in the departure lounge are expected to make a noticeable difference for outbound travellers from Easter onwards.
