Family members of a woman killed by a careless driver have spoken of their ‘unbearably hard’ loss.
It comes as 37-year-old Wojciech Sokolowski was today sentenced in connection with the death of Diane Bull – also known as Diane Teasdale – who was 55, in a collision on Stragglethorpe Road in Cotgrave on Monday 18 March 2019.
In a victim impact statement, Ms Teasdale’s father Raymond Teasdale spoke of his devastation at losing a second daughter, after the family lost Ms Teasdale’s sister to cancer in 2011. He said: “What has affected me the most is that two of my children have died before me. This goes against what you think is a natural timeline. I’m still alive and have lived my life, however this has not been allowed for my children.”
Ms Teasdale’s sister, Jennette Curzon, also in a victim impact statement, said: “The day that it happened changed my life forever. I will no longer hear her voice or see her face. It is difficult sometimes to even comprehend that she is no longer here. It hurts me to think about the day that she died, without the people who loved her by her side. The impact on my family has been devastating, the loss of Diane has been unbearably hard for us all.”
Officers were called at around 3.40pm to a collision involving two cars and a lorry on Stragglethorpe Road. Ms Teasdale was taken to hospital but died a short time later.
Sokolowski, of Amesbury Circus in Aspley, Nottingham, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court today (13 October) after pleading guilty to causing death by careless driving at an earlier hearing.
Police Constable Mark Davey, who investigated the incident, said: “Diane was a much loved sister, daughter, mother and grandma who was taken away from her loved ones all too soon.
“This case is a tragic reminder of the responsibility all of us have each time we get behind the wheel. Just a few moments of distraction or carelessness can change people’s lives forever.
“I would encourage every driver to remember that they have other people’s lives in their hands every time they take to the roads. Together we can all make sure that tragedies like this one don’t keep happening.”
Sokolowski was sentenced to 12 months in prison suspended for two years and was banned from driving for 12 months.
