Officers investigating a serious assault in St Ann’s have made a fifth arrest.
An investigation has been underway ever since a man was repeatedly struck in the head with a blunt object.
The 35-year-old victim sustained potentially life-altering injuries in the attack, which happened in Harlaxton Walk, around 4.20pm last Wednesday (12 August).
Detectives have been conducting extensive door-to-door and CCTV inquiries within the community in the days since, which resulted in a suspect being detained last night (20 August).
The 30-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in police custody at this time.
That takes the number of suspects arrested as part of the investigation up to five, with four other people also arrested on suspicion of the same offence between last Sunday (16 August) and this Tuesday (18 August).
Those four men – aged 28, 29, 48 and 61 – have all been released on bail with strict conditions as police continue to investigate what happened.
Detective Sergeant Christophe Sutton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This was a horrible assault that left a man with very serious injuries, so it is important to us that we’re able to bring anyone responsible for this to justice.
“We can now confirm that a fifth suspect has now been identified and arrested in connection with this attack.
“The public played a big role in helping us to do that, whether by coming forward with anything they know or by sharing our previous appeal with others, so we’d like to thank everyone who did so.
“Our investigation into the circumstances of what happened remains ongoing, however, so we’d welcome any further relevant pieces of information, should anyone have any.”
