Fire at Beeston pub leaves man with burns to his hands

A man sustained burns to his hands after a fire broke out at a pub in Beeston on Sunday 30 August.

Fire crews were called to The Nurseryman public house on Derby Road following reports of a fire in a downstairs office.

Staff evacuated all customers before firefighters arrived. No other injuries were reported.

The injured man was treated by firefighters at the scene before making his own way to the Queen’s Medical Centre’s accident and emergency department.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus brought the fire under control using a hose reel jet. Two positive pressure ventilation fans were then used to clear smoke from the building.

The pub was closed for the remainder of Sunday following the incident.

The fire service thanked staff and customers for acting quickly.
