Fly-tipped rubbish removed from A611 between Hucknall and Annesley

Rubbish fly-tipped on the A611 between Hucknall and Annesley has been removed, Ashfield District Council has confirmed.

The council said its environment teams cleared the waste following an investigation by its Community Safety team.

Ashfield District Council said the investigation had identified several people it believes were involved in the incident, and enforcement action is now being progressed.

The authority said it is confident it will be able to recover the costs of clearing the waste through a successful prosecution.

The council added that it is not usually responsible for removing waste dumped on private or unadopted land, with that responsibility normally falling to the landowner.

However, it said it may intervene in certain circumstances, including where fly-tipping is causing a significant nuisance, where there is a risk to public health or safety, or where there is a strong prospect of identifying and prosecuting those responsible.

A spokesperson for Ashfield District Council said fly-tipping was a serious offence which damages the environment and local communities, and that the authority would continue to take enforcement action, including fines and prosecutions where appropriate.

Residents involved in the unlawful disposal of waste can face penalties of up to £50,000 or imprisonment on conviction.

The council is urging residents and businesses to dispose of waste responsibly and to make sure any third party they use to remove rubbish is properly licensed and provides a receipt.
