A man who was chanting loudly and causing disruption on a train has been issued with a three-year football banning order.
Jake Taylor, aged 18, of Long Eaton, Derbyshire was shouting, swearing and jeering while on board a train from Grantham to Nottingham after a Derby County football match.
He was sentenced on Friday 26 January at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court and received a three-year football banning order and ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £100 surcharge.
The court heard how on Saturday 26 August last year, at around 7pm, Taylor was travelling with other fans on the train back to Nottingham after the match.
There were three police officers escorting the fans on the train, who repeatedly asked the fans to stop shouting and swearing, however Taylor continued and then directed chants at the officers. Despite being asked repeatedly he continued to shout and swear disturbing and upsetting other passengers in the carriage.
PC Keown-Boyd said: “This was clearly an act of bravado which has seen Taylor face a three year banning order, preventing him from following his team, he will not be able to attend matches, or be in the same town when Derby County play away games. I hope this gives him time to think about his actions and understand that his behaviour is not acceptable.
“There is no excuse for behaviour like this – the banning order should serve as a reminder to anyone who believes they can get away with unacceptable behaviour on the railway – there will be consequences.”
