A fully affordable housing estate on the empty site of a former care home has been given the go-ahead by the council.
Plans for almost 30 homes to be built on the site of the former Bishops Court Care Home in The Heathers, off Tuxford Road in Boughton, were submitted by Nottingham Community Housing Association, Norse Homes and Nottinghamshire County Council back in April 2025.
The former Nottinghamshire County Council-owned care home was demolished in 2022 and the site has been vacant ever since.
Now, 28 fully affordable homes will be built on site after Newark and Sherwood District Council approved the plans last Thursday (February 26).
The homes will be a mix of five ground floor one-bed flats, five first floor one-bed flats, 17 two-bed houses and one three-bed home.
Documents state the properties will be managed by Nottingham Community Housing Association.
Plans say the new homes “will help create a mixed community” and will help provide “much-needed” homes for people on the council’s housing waiting list.
A new cul-de-sac road will be made for the estate and each home with two or three bedrooms will have two parking spaces. Those living in the apartments will have one space.
Elsewhere in the district, dozens of affordable homes are currently being built in Bowbridge Road, Newark.
This development – built by Mercers Building Solutions – will involve 93 properties being built, in a mix of flats, family homes and bungalows. An additional 13 supported living homes will provide tailored accommodation for young people who require assistance to live independently.
The completion of the Newark homes is expected to be in early 2027.
