Work has started on the fit out

Glass Onion’s journey began in 2005, when founder John started selling vintage clothing out of his grandma’s coal shed in Barnsley. What began as a small-scale operation has since grown into the UK’s leading vintage clothing company, processing an astonishing 20,000 kg of second-hand clothing every week at their South Yorkshire HQ. Every piece was once discarded and destined for landfill, but Glass Onion is on a mission to give fashion a second life.

Sustainability is at the heart of everything they do. They even have an in-house remade factory, which takes damaged and unwanted garments—along with offcuts—and transforms them into brand-new, wearable pieces, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

Glass Onion opened its first retail store in Sheffield in 2019, quickly becoming a local favourite. Their commitment to quality and sustainability has earned them “Best Indie Retailer in Sheffield” and “Best Vintage Retailer in Sheffield” at the Exposed Magazine Awards for three consecutive years.

Now, with three thriving stores in Sheffield and Leeds, a growing community of vintage lovers, and global wholesale customers, Glass Onion is still proudly based in South Yorkshire, just a stone’s throw from where it all began. And with the Nottingham store opening soon, their journey is far from over!
