Three suspects appeared in court – with one of them jailed – following a burglary and theft series across Worksop town centre.
Officers have been investigating two commercial break-ins in Worksop that occurred on 16 February – one at Retford Road, and another at Newcastle Avenue.
£500 worth of meat and various other food items were also taken from two different businesses in Gateford Road and Newcastle Avenue on the same day.
A further break-in at a sweet shop on Central Avenue is also under investigation. Over £600 worth of stock was reported missing.
During another incident on 12 January, reports came in that a parked car had been driven away from outside a property on Mount Road, Balderton.
The victim was able to track their stolen car to London Road, Newark, that evening, where it was recovered.
After gathering CCTV evidence and conducting other local inquiries, four suspects were located and arrested on Tuesday (17 February).
Shamus Doyle, 36, was one of these people and has since been charged with two counts of burglary, one of shop theft and one of motor theft.
Doyle, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty during his Nottingham Magistrates’ Court appearance on Wednesday (19 February) and was jailed for a total of seven months.
Christopher Billam, 45, has been charged with three counts of shop theft.
Billam, of Gateford Road, Worksop, also appeared in court on Wednesday and was released on bail. He is next due in court on 19 May.
Nathan Proctor, 33, has been charged with two counts of burglary.
Proctor, of Gateford Road, Worksop, was remanded in custody and is next due in court on 2 April.
A 42-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of burglary, robbery and shop theft. She has been released on bail as the investigation continues.
Inspector Robert Harrison, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Incidents of this nature can have a very considerable impact on local businesses and are a key focus for the Bassetlaw neighbourhood policing team.
“As well as affecting livelihoods, invasive crimes like burglary can also leave a lasting impression on people from an emotional standpoint too.
“That’s why burglary remains a top priority for the area, and I’m pleased we have now been able to put three suspects before the courts, with one of them admitting to his offences and receiving a custodial sentence.
“We are still in the process of investigating the Central Avenue incident, so we’d ask anyone that has any information to call the police on 101, quoting occurrence 26*92596 of 17 February 2026.”
