A resident from a retirement housing scheme in Nottingham has won a national award for neighbourliness.
Mrs Sarah Cuthbertson, 90, won the Anchor Hanover Neighbour Like No Other Award after being nominated for her dedication to the wellbeing of the community at Wellington Court in Wellington Place, Eastwood.
Almost 100 nominations were sent in for the Neighbour Like No Other Award part of the Loving Later Life Awards series run by Anchor Hanover.
Sarah, or Sally as she prefers to be known, has lived at Wellington Court since 2006 and has been an active participant in the community life there. A keen gardener, she spends much of her time ensuring the communal garden is in full bloom for all residents to enjoy.
She is also the treasurer of the Wellington Court social fund, helping to organise fun social events and days out for her neighbours.
Being a good neighbour is second nature for her endeavours to befriend new comers to the retirement property and regularly helps neighbours with their shopping.
Sally’s neighbour, Hester Costello, who nominated her for the award, said: “Sally is a much loved and respected friend and neighbour to everyone and will do anything for anyone. The list of all the things she helps us with would be too long to write down, but she does so much for all of us, particularly during the coronavirus crisis. She’s been an amazing figure of support and kindness.
“She plays a huge part in making Wellington Court a vibrant, friendly place to live and it is lovely to see her efforts recognised and rewarded through the Loving Later Life Awards with Anchor Hanover.”
Sally was delighted when she was told that she had won the award.
She said: “I’m really touched by the nomination and even more so for winning as well!
“I’ve always just wanted to help people and do my bit and everyone at Wellington Court is so lovely it just feels great to be part of such a kind and caring community.”
