Live updates: A46 closed both ways between A1 and Newark – serious collision

The road is closed in both directions between the Cattle Market roundabout and A1.

The A46 in Nottinghamshire is closed in both directions between A617 near Newark-on-Trent and the A1 near Winthorpe following a serious collision.

Nottinghamshire emergency services are in attendance, along with National Highways Traffic Officers who are assisting with traffic management.

Diversion Routes

Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the below diversion route (no symbol)

  • From the A46 Cattle Market roundabout, exit onto the A616 northbound.
  • At the mini roundabout in South Muskham, continue north on the B6325.
  • At the grade-separated junction with the A1, take the last exit and join the A1 southbound for 3.6km.
  • Exit the A1 at the Newark junction to re-join the A46.

Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the below diversion route (no symbol)

  • From the A46 Brownhills junction, exit onto the A1 northbound.
  • Take the exit slip road at the North Muskham junction, then take the first (B6325) exit off the roundabout and head south.
  • Continue over the mini-roundabout in South Muskham and onto the A616 to re-join the A46 at the Cattle Market roundabout.

AA Roadwatch:

‘Road closed and queueing traffic due to crash on A46 both ways between the A617 (Cattlemarket Roundabout ) and A1 (Newark Showground / Air Museum Turn Off).

‘The road is closed following an accident first reported shortly before 20:00.’
