Live updates: A5 Leicestershire closed both ways – serious collision

The A5 in Leicestershire is closed in both directions between the M69 (J1) near Hinckley and the A4303 at Lutterworth due to a serious collision involving a car.

Emergency services, including Leicestershire Police, are in attendance, and National Highways contractors will also be attending to assist with traffic management.

Due to the nature of the incident, the road is likely to remain closed throughout the afternoon.

Diversion Routes

Southbound traffic is advised to follow the hollow circle diversion symbol:

• Exit the A5 eastbound at the A5/M69 Interchange, taking the third exit off the roundabout onto the B4109.
• Continue south on the B4109 and then take a left turn (south/east) onto Gipsy Lane.
• Continue south along Gipsy Lane to the B4114 Gipsy Lane/Lutterworth Road/Smockington Lane Roundabout.
• At the roundabout, continue southbound and take the second exit onto Cloudsley Lane, which merges into Mere Lane to the B4455 Fosse Way/Mere Lane/Coalpit Lane crossroads.
• At the crossroads, turn left (north) onto the B4455 Fosse Way and continue north to the A5 High Cross Junction.
• At the junction, turn right (south/east) and rejoin the A5 eastbound.

Northbound traffic is advised to follow the solid diamond diversion symbol:

• Exit the A5 north/westbound at the A5/B4455 High Cross Junction by turning left (south) onto the B4455 Fosse Way.
• Continue south along Fosse Way to the B4455 Coalpit Lane/Fosse Way/Mere Lane Crossroads.
• At the crossroads, turn right (north/west) onto Mere Lane.
• Continue along Mere Lane, which merges into Cloudsley Lane, to the B4114 Gipsy Lane/Lutterworth Road/Smockington Lane Roundabout.
• At the roundabout, continue north/west and take the second exit onto Gipsy Lane.
• Continue north/westbound along Gipsy Lane to the B4109 Hinckley Road/Gipsy Lane Junction.
• At the junction, turn right (north) onto the B4109 Hinckley Road and continue northbound to the M69 J1/A5 Interchange.
• At the interchange, take the second exit (north/west) onto the A5.
