M1 fully open after crash and lorry fire leads to resurfacing work

The M1 motorway is now fully open after a collision and lorry fire caused a stretch of the road to be closed.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said:

‘Police were called at 5.27am yesterday (Monday 3 November) to a report of a collision involving two lorries on the M1 southbound carriageway near to junction 20.

‘The collision subsequently left one vehicle on fire and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance.

‘No injuries have been reported.

‘Both carriageways, between junctions 20 and 21, were closed initially.

‘Northbound was reopened shortly before 8am. Southbound remained closed for the day to allow for the area to be cleared and vehicles to be recovered.

‘Resurfacing work has also been completed and the carriageway was reopened at 12.50am today (Tuesday).

‘Thank you to everyone for their patience.

‘Anyone with information regarding the incident can contact police on 101 quoting incident 61 of 3 November.’
