Man and woman savaged by ‘out of control dog’ in a Nottingham garden

A police officer wrestled to control a dangerously out of control dog after it attacked two people in a back garden.

A man and woman were savaged at a property in Stoneycroft Road, Basford, shortly after 5.15am on Thursday.

Officers attended the scene after receiving reports of a disturbance and were helped by a member of the public to pull the dog away from the victims.

The animal was eventually brought under control by a specialist dog officer who had rushed to the scene to offer support.

Neither the man or woman suffered life-threatening injuries.

The dog has been taken away and is being cared for at a secure kennelling facility while investigations continue.

Chief Inspector Heather Sutton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a severely distressing incident for all who were involved and witnessed the incident which resulted in a man and woman sustaining nasty injuries.

“But for the swift intervention of the officers on the ground and the brave member of the public who helped restrain the dog, the injuries would have been an awful lot worse. I would urge all dog owners to make sure that their dogs are properly controlled and trained, to reduce the risk of incidents like this occurring.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 108 of 17 June.
