Man armed with chainsaw threatens police officers at Nottingham allotments

A 38-year-old man has been charged with assault on an emergency service worker and possession of an offensive weapon.

It’s after Nottinghamshire Police officers were called to St Ann’s Allotments in Ransom Road at 9.07am yesterday (Wednesday 7 October) to a report of criminal damage.

When officers arrived a man was waving a chainsaw at them and refused to put it down, telling them not to come any closer.

More officers arrived and a man was safely. There were no injuries.

Denval McKenzie, of no fixed abode, was charged and is due to appear before Nottingham Magistrates today.

Chief Inspector Nick Waldram, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We cannot condone threatening and abusive behaviour towards our emergency service workers who are just going about their daily duties.

“Being threatened with any weapon can be incredibly alarming and the officers acted bravely and kept the man calm until back-up arrived resulting in a man being safely arrested.”
