A man has been arrested after multiple offences involving the same person were reported in Nottingham city centre.
On Monday 30 March, police received multiple calls about a heavily-intoxicated man reportedly assaulting people and making racial comments.
Officers were first called at 5.29pm to a report of a man behaving aggressively on a tram outside the Theatre Royal. It was reported he smashed a glass bottle before punching a male member of the public.
Further incidents were reported in Friar Lane, Canal Street and Carrington Street.
After an area search, officers located a suspect in Meadows Way at 5.50pm and arrested him.
The 33-year-old was taken into custody and questioned on suspicion of affray, inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, racially aggravated common assault, criminal damage and assault by beating.
He has been bailed with strict conditions pending further enquiries into the incidents.
Superintendent Chris Pearson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“We believe the suspect had travelled into Nottingham from Grimsby and had been drinking excessively.
“His behaviour was completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our city.
“I hope his victims and those who witnessed these incidents are reassured by this arrest and our enquiries into the matter continue.”
