A man was detained after reports that a woman had been glassed in the city centre.
The incident happened just after 2 am on Tuesday 16 June near a bus stop on Beastmarket Hill.
Police officers were flagged down by an NCT bus driver near Byron House, informing them that he had seen a man in a grey-chequered shirt glass a woman.
The bus driver also provided officers with a direction of travel.
Based on the description, they located a man and a woman who had a cut to her head.
Both parties were known to each other.
As officers continued to engage with both the man and the woman, a taxi driver pulled up and gave the same account as the bus driver.
A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm (ABH) and remains in police custody.
The victim did not require hospital treatment and was taken home by police officers.
Whilst in custody, the 42-year-old suspect shouted homophobic abuse at an officer, so he was arrested again for a public order offence.
Chief Inspector Kylie Davies, who manages city centre policing, said: “As the public would expect, violence against women and girls is a priority for Nottinghamshire Police.
“Thanks to excellent partnership working between the bus and taxi companies, we were able to locate the suspect involved, safeguard a potentially vulnerable victim, and ensure that he spent the rest of the evening in our custody suite.
“This is a great example of Operation Reclaim in action, which was launched in April to concentrate on the major issues affecting the city centre.
“Through working with key partners, we are making Nottingham a safer city for residents, businesses and visitors, ensuring those causing the most harm are dealt with robustly, as this incident clearly shows.”
