Man attacked ex-partner in Sneinton supermarket

A 66-year-old man has been jailed after he attacked his ex-partner as she worked in a supermarket.

Jozef Zurak ignored a restraining order by entering the victim’s place of work, where he struck her with a glass beer bottle.

The attack only stopped when a customer intervened and restrained him.

Nottingham Crown Court heard the attack happened at TWO’J Supermarket, in Meadow Lane, Sneinton, shortly after 2pm on 15 February this year.

The victim was working behind a meat counter when her ex-partner approached with the glass bottle in his hand.

Fearing for her safety, the woman attempted to flee but slipped over and fell on the floor.

Zurak pinned her down and struck her with the bottle to the forehead.

The court heard a member of the public jumped the counter and restrained Zurak, who then fled the scene.

Zurak, of Elford Rise, Sneinton, was circulated as wanted and was located by officers three days later and arrested.

He went on to plead guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and breaching a restraining order and has been jailed for two years.

Following the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Stacey Hardstaff, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Zurak displayed a complete disregard for the restraining order by not only making contact with the victim but by attacking her also.

“These are incredibly serious offences, as reflected in the sentence imposed on him.

“This was an extremely traumatising experience for the victim in this case and I hope that this sentencing will provide her with some reassurance.
