Man charged in Newark murder investigation

A man has been charged with murder following a fatal assault in Newark.

Emergency services were called to reports of a motorist in distress, just before 5pm on Monday 16 June at Lombard Street.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics in attendance, a 38-year-old man – who can now be named as Thomas Dear – died at the scene shortly afterwards.

Police can confirm that a man also named Thomas Dear, aged 20, has been charged with murder.

Dear, of no fixed address, remains in custody and is next due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday 8 December.

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“A dedicated team of police officers and investigators have been carrying out extensive inquiries to determine the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

“As we announce this charge today, our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the deceased.”
