A man has appeared in court this morning charged with murder following a woman’s body being found at a Nottinghamshire address.
Police were called to Victoria Street in Newark just before midday on Thursday (22 July) following concerns reported by members of the public.
Valdamara Zemaitiene, aged 48, was found dead on a bed inside the house with bruising on her body.
Her partner Vitoldas Platakis, aged 50, of Victoria Street, Newark, was arrested at the scene.
He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with murder and was remanded into custody. He will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, 27 July.
Detective Inspector Becky Hodgman from Nottinghamshire Police said: “We were called to the incident on Thursday morning and following our investigations a man has now been charged with murder.
“I would like to reassure residents we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident and our enquiries will continue.”
