Man charged with possession of knife and Class A drugs in Nottingham city centre

A man is due before magistrates charged with carrying a knife and Class A drugs whilst in Nottingham city centre.

Security guards called Nottinghamshire Police after searching a man outside a bar in Market Street and discovering a small kitchen knife.

The suspect was arrested and taken into custody, where a further search led to the discovery of a small deal bag containing a quantity of cocaine.

Jack Smith, 28, of Burford Road, Forest Fields, Nottingham, has been charged with possessing a knife blade in a public place and possession of a Class A drug.

He was bailed with conditions not to enter the city centre and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 9 June.

The arrest follows the launch of Operation Reclaim, a partnership approach to relentlessly targeting criminals who use the city centre to commit crime.

Nottinghamshire Police are using the Home Office tactic called Clear, Hold, Build, where they make the environment as hostile as possible for criminals to operate and ensure the vacuum cannot be filled once they are arrested and charged.

Chief Inspector Kylie Davies, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“We are treating knife and drug crime extremely seriously as part of Operation Reclaim and will continue to take robust action against anyone involved in this sort of criminality.

“We are fortunate to have strong partnerships and will continue to work with local businesses to tackle criminal activity in the city centre.”
