Response officers tracked down and arrested three suspects within minutes of a violent robbery in Nottingham city centre.
A man in his twenties was punched and had his high-value jacket ripped from him after being set upon by a group of people. He was also reportedly threatened with a weapon during the attack, which happened within yards of the McDonald’s on Milton Street.
Police were called just after 4.55 pm on Monday (4 November), with response officers then conducting a sweep of the surrounding area. By 5.15 pm, three suspects had been chased down and put in handcuffs after being seen near Old Market Square.
An initial search of one of the individuals resulted in the discovery of a machete, while Class A and Class B drugs were recovered from another suspect. Further checks of the trio were then made while they were in custody, which resulted in wraps of cocaine and cash being seized from one of them.
Three people – a 22-year-old man, a 35-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old boy – were all arrested on suspicion of robbery. The man was additionally arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed article in public and possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply. Police also arrested the female suspect for possession of Class A and Class B drugs.
The stolen Canada Goose jacket has yet to be recovered, and officers are appealing to anyone who knows of its whereabouts to come forward.
Inspector Andy Wright, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“The officers involved did a great job reacting to the information available to locate three people suspected of being involved in a robbery minutes earlier.
“Their rapid response also enabled us to take a machete they discovered out of harm’s way, while also seizing quantities of Class A and Class B drugs.
“While the victim in this case thankfully didn’t sustain serious injuries after being attacked, I’ve no doubt this will have been an incredibly distressing experience for him.
“After being assaulted and reportedly threatened with a knife, the man was made to hand over a high-value coat he was wearing at the time.
“We unfortunately haven’t yet located this jacket, so we’d ask anyone who knows where it could be to please report this to the police on 101, quoting incident 485 of 4 November 2024.
