Man in court over high-value bike thefts in West Bridgford and Nottingham

Police investigating a series of bicycle thefts results in a court appearance.

Five bikes were taken from locations including Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre; Radcliffe Road, West Bridgford; Chilwell Retail Park, Attenborough; University Boulevard, Nottingham and Roundhouse Road, Derby, between October 2023 and February 2024.

Some of the bikes stolen were high-value items costing thousands of pounds.

Twenty-eight-year-old Kyle Meli, of Nottingham, has been charged with five counts of theft of a pedal cycle.

He is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (26 February).

Inspector Tim Cuthbert, district commander for Rushcliffe, said: “We understand some people rely on their bicycles to get to work and to get around so members of my team have worked hard on this investigation.

“We would urge cyclists to take every possible precaution to prevent the theft of their bikes when parked at home or their place of work.”
