A man has been jailed after dragging a woman from her chair and choking her.
Michael McDonnell, 40, has been jailed after Nottinghamshire Police investigated the horrifying attack.
The 40-year-old had got in an argument with his victim before things turned violent at an address in Balderton, Newark, at around 6.10pm on 17 July 2021.
The victim, who then reportedly blacked out and woke up in the kitchen attempted to call the police before he threw her phone away.
In a desperate bid to escape McDonnell, she then told him that she didn’t want to die and ran out of the front door where she sought help from two passers-by.
His victim was left struggling with soreness to her neck, finding it difficult to swallow and talk and bruising and grazes to her legs.
McDonnell appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on 29 September 2021 after pleading guilty to actual bodily harm and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
He was also ordered to abide by a restraining order, preventing contact with the victim until further notice.
Detective Constable James Newton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a horrifying incident for the victim which left her feeling vulnerable and struggling to talk.
“McDonnell is now behind bars and I hope this jail term will give him chance to think about his actions and the impact they have had on the victim especially emotionally.
“These incidents can have a detrimental effect on the victims and their family members and we want to reassure the public that we will always use the resources available to us to bring those people to justice and help keep the people of Nottinghamshire safe.
“We understand the impact incidents like this can have on people and will work compassionately with the victims to determine the facts of the case and where to seek advice and support.
“We would like to urge anyone who has been subject to any harm caused by another person to get report the incident to us on 101.”
