A man has appeared in court over the suspected stalking of a woman after a string of abusive messages were allegedly sent to her, all in breach of a restraining order.
Officers were called to an address in Basford after they were alerted to a series of abusive phone calls and messages from unknown numbers on 5 March.
A man was arrested on 11 March on suspicion of harassment amounting to stalking and breaching a restraining order after the victim received three further threatening phone calls the day before.
Matthew McNaul, aged 35, of Springhead Court, Nottingham, has been charged with stalking involving fear of violence and harassment – breach of a restraining order.
He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 12 March and was remanded in custody until his next appearance at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 20 April 2026.
PC Tim Clinkscale, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We treat all reports of stalking and harassment extremely seriously and will always take robust action to help safeguard victims.
“Stalking is a distressing and invasive crime, and officers have worked quickly to ensure the suspect in this case was charged and placed before the courts.”
