Man suffers ‘cuts through to the bone’ in machete attack in Nottingham

A man is due to appear in court charged in connection with an alleged machete attack.

The victim’s injuries included a wound to his elbow which cut through the bone and has left him facing an operation.

A 45-year-old man from Chilwell has been charged with wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He is set to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (Friday 25 June).

It relates to a report of a serious assault in Ribblesdale Court shortly after 8am yesterday (Wednesday 23 June).

Detective Inspector Mark Shaw, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The force treats knife crime extremely seriously and continues to work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.

“We will always respond immediately to any offences where we believe bladed articles have been used and then devote whatever time and resources are necessary to gather evidence, track down suspects and bring them before the courts.

“Like the communities we serve, we believe there is no place for weapons on our streets. Just one knife incident can have tragic consequences which is why Nottinghamshire Police is committed to driving knife crime down even further by using all the powers at its disposal.

“Nottinghamshire Police also has a dedicated knife crime team committed to tackling the issue, along with a range of other tactics and operations that we use to prevent and reduce knife crime, and we are continuing to working with partners to tackle all aspects of this through education, engagement and enforcement activity.”

A 40-year-old man arrested in connection with the Ribblesdale Court incident has since been released on bail.

A 39-year-old man and 42-year-old woman who were also arrested have been released under investigation.
