Met Office downgrades thunderstorm warning to ‘low likelihood’

The Met Office issued updates to its warnings for this week.

Warnings have been issued for the Nottinghamshire region for today ( Monday 15 August ) and Tuesday.

The period covered is from 10 am today until midnight tomorrow.

A spokesperson said:

‘Already some showers to start the day, but these likely to become more widespread and heavier through the late morning and afternoon, lasting into the evening in places.

‘Some counties are likely to miss the worst of these storms but where they do occur, slow-moving torrential downpours could produce 20-30 mm inside an hour, with 40-50 mm falling in around 2-3 hours in a few spots.

‘Hail and frequent lightning could pose additional hazards for some.’

Forecast 

Today:

Cloudier than recently, although some very warm sunshine likely. Likely still feeling hot by the afternoon, especially where drier, brighter weather persists, Some slow-moving and heavy showers are expected to develop, perhaps turning thundery with hail. Maximum temperature 32 °C.

Tonight:

Staying rather cloudy, with showers continuing through the evening and only gradually easing overnight. Warm again, and feeling rather humid. Further heavy showers possible around dawn. Minimum temperature 16 °C.

Tuesday:

Cloudy start with showers, but also drier, brighter spells. Showers easing, with sunny spells developing before cloud builds again later. Further showers then likely, perhaps heavy and thundery. Less hot. Maximum temperature 26 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Further heavy, perhaps thundery showers and sunny spells Wednesday, easing later. Mostly dry Thursday, but rather cloudy with isolated showers possible. Sunny spells and showers Friday. Temperatures nearer normal.
