More than 300 attend Tamil New Year celebrations in Cotgrave

Nottingham Tamil Kuzhumam (NTK), a registered charity (RCN 1205049), celebrated the Tamil New Year—Puthandu—on 18th April 2026 at Cotgrave Hall, bringing together over 75 families and more than 300 attendees, demonstrating the growing strength, unity, and engagement of the Tamil community across Nottinghamshire.

The event began with the traditional lighting of the lamp (Kuthu Vilakku) by community elders, symbolising prosperity and new beginnings. The Chief Guest, Councillor Hari Om, addressed the gathering and praised NTK’s efforts in supporting and strengthening the local Tamil community.

A highlight of the celebration was the grand “Puthandu Vazha Ilai Virundhu”, an authentic Tamil feast served on banana leaves, featuring a rich variety of traditional dishes. The programme also included vibrant cultural performances such as folk dances and musical recitals by participants of all ages.
