Netherfield: Council launches consultation on new planning rules for HMOs

Gedling Borough Council has launched a consultation on plans to introduce new planning controls for houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) in Netherfield.

The proposed Article 4 Direction would remove permitted development rights allowing homes to be converted into small HMOs for up to six residents without planning permission.

If introduced, property owners would need to apply for planning permission before making this change of use.

The council said the proposal would help it manage the concentration and distribution of HMOs, support balanced communities and respond to concerns raised locally.

Residents, landlords and businesses are being invited to comment before a decision is made. Feedback will help determine whether the Article 4 Direction goes ahead and how it would be implemented.

Further information, including the proposed area covered and the full Article 4 Direction notice, is available on the council’s website.

Comments can be emailed to pandeservicesupport@gedling.gov.uk before Friday, August 21.
