Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Asset Management, Councillor Milan Radulovic MBE says, ‘We’re delighted to announce that these new toilet facilities are now open to the public. These facilities are a huge improvement on the toilets that were there before, and we’re happy to have delivered on our promise to our residents. It’s really important that we provide facilities for people with different access needs, and we will be looking at how we can improve these further as we explore options to increase the accessibility of these facilities.’

A Changing Places Toilet is a facility with extra space and equipment and is designed for people with complex disabilities who require one or two assistants with them.

Facilities include:

  • Toilet with access to both sides for assistants
  • Ceiling Track Hoist with 200kg weight limit (Slings not provided)
  • Height-adjustable changing table
  • Height adjustable wash basin
  • Privacy Screen

As part of the Council’s Climate Change and Green Futures programme, the toilets have also been built with a living green roof providing a habitat for bees and other pollinators. The green roof will also absorb water and reduce surface water runoff and the toilets are heated, using an energy-efficient air source heat pump.
