New footpath opens in Edwalton linking village with golf course and wider walking routes

A new footpath has opened in Edwalton.

This will allow residents from both Edwalton village and the wider Edwalton community better access to Edwalton Golf Course and the wider West Bridgford and Gamston area.

The footpath stretches from Wellingtonia Crescent to the existing footpaths around Edwalton Golf Course, allowing children a safer route to walk to school and residents the chance to avoid walking along Melton Road and to join a larger walking route which runs through Edwalton Village into Gamston and West Bridgford, or the other way towards the A52 and into Tollerton, Ruddington or Keyworth.

Councillors Hetvi Parekh, Gordon Wheeler and Jonathan Wheeler have been working with developers and both Rushcliffe Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council to bring this path forward as quickly as possible, especially in light of a temporary closure of the existing right of way to allow the Edwalton Glade development to be built.

Councillors said:

“We are delighted this footpath is finally open, especially as we go into the spring and hopefully get some better weather!

“This route delivers a much-needed active travel route, which also allows residents in the newer Edwalton development the chance to connect with the facilities in Edwalton Village and Edwalton Golf Centre, where there is a bar and café area.

“The public right-of-way walking routes around the golf course are fantastic to walk around as well, and this connectivity can only be a boost to residents.

“We thank officers from both councils, local residents and the developers for the work to get this route open.”

The footpath crosses over various developments, and the maintenance and ownership currently remain with them and not local councils. The wider network can be joined from the bottom of Village Street, 100 m further up at a separate entrance, from Edwalton Golf Centre, or from the bottom of Blackbird Crescent or Wellingtonia Crescent.
