New nursery to open at a West Bridgford school in September

Families in West Bridgford are set to benefit from more accessible childcare closer to home after St Edmund Campion Catholic Primary School, located in Abbey Ward, was awarded funding to open a new ‘Best Start’ school-based nursery.

The new provision, due to open in September 2026, will increase the number of childcare places available locally and make it easier for parents to manage work and family commitments.

The expansion is part of a wider government programme supporting 331 schools across the country to build or extend nursery facilities on site in time for September, creating thousands of additional places for young children.

In Nottinghamshire, five schools will benefit from more accessible childcare under new plans to open or expand school-based nurseries: Orchard Primary School and Nursery, Springfield Academy, St Edmund Campion Catholic Primary School, St Peter’s Crosskeys CofE Academy, Victoria Primary School.

School-based nurseries are designed to simplify daily routines for families, allowing parents to drop off children of different ages at the same location, reducing travel time during busy mornings and afternoons. They also help children prepare for the transition into primary school.

James Naish, MP for Rushcliffe, said: “I’m really pleased to hear that St Edmund Campion will be getting a new nursery. This is a positive step for local families near the school, increasing access to high-quality childcare and making it easier for parents to balance work and home life. It will also give more children in Rushcliffe the best possible start in their early years.”
