A man has been jailed for five years and five months after admitting a series of burglaries and thefts in Newark.
Michael Hudson, 42, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday 9 October after pleading guilty to offences committed during November 2025.
Hudson was linked to 14 burglary and theft offences across Newark between 19 and 28 November, including break-ins at homes and businesses, shop thefts and vehicle-related offences.
He was arrested on 27 December after police were called to an attempted theft of car parts at a dealership in Newark.
Hudson was accompanied by Jonathan Swift, 33, and Stefan Aird, 36, when officers arrived at the premises.
The three men attempted to run from the scene but were detained by officers nearby. A vehicle had been damaged during the attempted theft.
Following Hudson’s arrest, detectives linked him to offences involving the theft of cash, jewellery, clothing, mobile phones and other electronic items.
These included burglaries at two homes and two businesses, four shop thefts, the theft of a truck and a bicycle, and offences involving vehicles.
Hudson was subsequently charged with 15 offences, including six counts of burglary, two attempted burglaries, four shop thefts, theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle and theft of a pedal cycle.
At Nottingham Crown Court on 26 May, he pleaded guilty to four counts of burglary, four counts of shop theft, theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle and theft of a pedal cycle.
Two further burglary charges and two attempted burglary charges were left to lie on file.
Hudson was remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing.
Cliff Bunch, 30, who admitted taking part in a burglary at a Newark home with Hudson on 19 November, was also sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on 9 October.
Bunch, formerly of Grey Street, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, also pleaded guilty to a separate burglary at a garage in Gainsborough on 16 November.
He was sentenced to three years in prison.
Swift and Aird, both of London Road, Sleaford, Lincolnshire, had previously pleaded guilty to theft from a motor vehicle in connection with the incident at the Newark dealership on 27 December.
Swift received a 12-month community order, including 80 hours of unpaid work and six rehabilitation activity requirement days.
Aird received a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and was ordered to complete 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
Both were also ordered to pay £100 compensation.
Detective Sergeant James Hirst, of Nottinghamshire Police, said Hudson had been responsible for offences involving homes, businesses, shops and vehicles in the Newark area.
He said Hudson was the main offender, although others had been involved in some of the offences.
