News Shop Cotgrave is named the best shop in Rushcliffe after winning Ruth Edwards MP’s “Best Local Shop” competition.
Constituents were asked to vote for their favourite local retailer, who would be recognised and celebrated as part of Small Business Saturday when the results were announced.
Ruth visited Kelly Robinson to congratulate her and present the winner’s certificate.
Ruth also presented certificates to runners up: The Pet Pantry and Philo’s Deli (Both in Ruddington) narrowly missed out on the top spot.
Kelly, the owner of News Shop Cotgrave said:
“I am so grateful to my customers for taking the time to vote for the shop. They mean the world to me and all of their kind comments on Facebook are really quite overwhelming as I just see it as coming in and doing my job.”
The support for Kelly and News Shop Cotgrave, as well as other independent stores that received many votes themselves, demonstrate how a community can get behind one of their own and how much local businesses mean to them. They become mainstays and focal points in their respective towns and villages.
Ruth Edwards MP had this to say about the competition:
“I always enjoy running competitions like these because they show just how important local shops and small businesses are to communities throughout Rushcliffe. They are often the backbones of our local economies and provide opportunities and jobs to local people and I wanted to thank and recognise their place in the Rushcliffe business community with these competitions.
I would also like to thank everyone who got involved and voted for their favourite shop. I know every vote is very much appreciated by the local shops throughout Rushcliffe.”
