Nottingham City Transport takes on Lister Gate property

A major public transport operation is moving into prominent new business premises in Nottingham city centre.

Developer ALB Group announced that it has let a unit in Lister Gate on a 10-year lease to Nottingham City Transport – the city’s biggest transport operator.

The award-winning company will be relocating customer services from its Lower Parliament Street hub to Lister Gate.

The premises, which was advertised by FHP at a rental of £40,000 per annum, were previously home to Gordon Scott shoe shop and more recently Stock Giant. It is currently undergoing a full fit-out.

Arran Bailey, managing director at ALB Group, said: “This is a great move for Nottingham City Transport and an excellent addition to this part of the city centre, which is now witnessing a dramatic transformation.”

A succession of high-profile retailers opened shops on this major thoroughfare recently.

The premises at 28-30 Lister Gate stand opposite the new Sports Direct shop and shares the city location with other major operators including Flannels, and Super Dry.

This sector of Nottingham, which links the bus and railway station with the city centre, has already seen multi-million-pound investment resulting in the new Broad Marsh car park and bus station, new Central Library, and Green Heart park. Lister Gate was one of the streets that was hit by the closure and subsequent partial demolition of the former Broadmarsh Centre. However after a few false starts, its transformation is now fully underway.

Arran said: “With plans for the area now coming to fruition – work on the new state of the art NHS diagnostic centre underway, the green heart is maturing nicely and new tenants are snapping up units in Lister Gate, Bridlesmith Gate and Low Pavement areas – we are already seeing the transformation of this major gateway into the city centre.”

ALB Group, and Arran Bailey personally, has a track record of successfully regenerating city locations and repurposing commercial space. Previous developments include Falcon House, in Dudley, Burlington House, in Chesterfield, and Prosperity House, in Derby. The firm has also developed Bridlesmith Gate in Nottingham city centre, as well as Carlton Police Station.
