A 35-year-old man has appeared at Remand Court charged with modern slavery offences.
Elvis Scriparu, 35 of Falcon Grove in New Basford has been charged with arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view to exploitation, require a person to perform forced or compulsory labour and have possession of criminal property.
Detective Constable Matthew Wakeling who is the investigating officer said: “The charges relate to a complex investigation by Nottinghamshire Police’s Modern Slavery Team.
“The victim has been exploited and forced to work for little or no pay. They are currently being supported by specialist officers from Nottinghamshire Police and partner agencies.
Detective Inspector Paul Lefford who leads the Modern Slavery team added: “Modern Slavery can present in many forms and is a complex and often hidden crime.
“We work very closely with partner agencies to investigate and respond to concerns regarding anyone who is potentially a victim of modern day slavery.
“Increased awareness and training for first responders has significantly improved the way this type of abuse is being tackled. I would urge anyone with concerns regarding someone being exploited to contact the Police or the Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700.”
Scriparu has been remanded into custody and due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 21 October 2020.
