Four flood alerts remain in place across Nottinghamshire and neighbouring parts of Leicestershire today, Wednesday 26 August.
The alerts mean flooding is possible following forecasts of thunderstorms and heavy rain. There are currently no higher-level flood warnings in force.
The Environment Agency said the morning forecast had improved, but a risk of heavy rainfall from thunderstorms remained during the afternoon. Further heavy rain is forecast on Thursday, followed by lighter persistent rain on Friday.
River Maun in Nottinghamshire
Flooding is possible around the River Maun catchment.
Areas considered most at risk include low-lying agricultural land and roads around Mansfield, Sherwood Forest Caravan Park at Clipstone, Edwinstowe, Ollerton, Whitewater Lane at Whitewater Bridge and West Drayton.
The wider alert area includes Mansfield, Edwinstowe, Ollerton and Milton.
The alert was updated at 9.31am today and is due to be reviewed by 5pm.
River Trent tributaries in Nottinghamshire
An alert covers tributaries of the River Trent, including the River Greet, Potwell Dyke, Carr Dyke, Dover Beck, Cocker Beck, Woodborough Brook, Ouse Dyke, Thurgarton Beck and Fairham Brook.
Low-lying agricultural land and roads close to these watercourses are most at risk.
The Environment Agency said water levels at its Lowdham gauge could rise rapidly because of the nature of the catchment.
The alert was updated at 9.29am and is due to be reviewed by 5pm.
River Leen, Day Brook and Tottle Brook
Flooding is possible on low-lying land, recreational areas and roads around the River Leen, Day Brook and Tottle Brook.
Locations identified as being at risk include the High School playing fields on Valley Road and low-lying land and roads around Tottle Brook.
River levels at the Day Brook gauge may rise rapidly.
This alert was last updated at 4.15pm on Tuesday 25 August. It remains listed as active by the Environment Agency.
Loughborough watercourses and River Soar tributaries
A flood alert also covers Loughborough’s urban watercourses and local tributaries of the River Soar.
Flooding is possible from midday into the evening, particularly on low-lying agricultural land and roads.
Areas identified include Kingfisher Way, Forest Road, Monarch Way and the Belton Road industrial areas. Watercourses covered include Wood Brook, Grace Dieu Brook, Burleigh Brook, Black Brook, Grammar School Brook, Hermitage Brook, Sileby Brook, Long Whatton Brook, King’s Brook and Kingston Brook.
The alert was updated at 8.56am and is due to be reviewed by 5pm.
Advice to residents
The Environment Agency advises people to avoid low-lying footpaths and bridges close to watercourses and to monitor local water and weather conditions.
